Banned MTV Ad

Even thought this ad was banned in the US after MTV aired it once, it is spreading through the Internet. I agree that there are a lot of national sentiments linked to this ad, but it can be looked in a different way. Look at it in the way the MTV wants it to be seen. What the ad asks for is true; when the world united against terrorism and gave the US a free hand in getting even with the people who committed the atrocious act of terrorism on 11th of Sept, spending billions of dollars in the process, it should also unite against poverty, hunger and AIDS which plague our planet.

Text next to the tower: 2863 people died
Text next to the guy: 40 million HIV affected people in the world
Message: The world united against terrorism. It should do the same against AIDS

Text next to the tower: 2863 people died
Text next to the kid: 824 million people starving in the world
Message: The world united against terrorism. It should do the same against Hunger

Text next to the tower: 2863 people died
Text next to the old man: 630 million homeless people in the world
Message: The world united against terrorism. It should do the same against Poverty

I could not verify the claim that this ad was banned in the US or that it was played only once. Do correct me if I'm wrong.

I echo one more reason's view. I have never seen it either. Ad sends a feeling on compassion and states if we can do it once why no again for a better cause.

Actually before I published this post, I did a blog search as well as a Google search for this. Most of them had concured with the claims I've made, ie, thae ad was banned in the US and that it was aired only once.

@ Thanu:

That was what the Ad was suppossed to do, but 9/11 has been such a major trauma for the US.

There is another instance, where the release of one of Schwarzenegger's movies, Collateral Damage, was postponed since a terrorist bomb explosion was the central plot of the movie.

I have seen this ad as a Powerpoint presentation sometime back, though I have never seen this in real or heard of it.

Yeah, the ads's good. But good ads remind u of good times, but this one fails in that. May be it was banned due to that.

@ Sreejith:

I too got it as a PPT, I took screen shots of the PPT, and pasted them on my blog!!!

Maybe the ad should have not been banned, however, the comparisons are simply out of place. The world (at least the western part of it) has made the step to unit against poverty, hunger and disease a long time ago.

I do not know the numbers, but I believe that far more money goes into the fight against aids and poverty then is being spend against islamic terror.
The success cannot be denied: AIDS is no longer a death sentence and instead of 34% of the world population that was suffering from hunger 30 years ago, the number decreased now to 18% - and this inspite of the imense growth of world population, which without a doubt contributes a major part to the problems.

The add ignores and plays down the thread that islamic terror poses on the western world. It would be interessting to get the correct number of victims that where slaughtered, raped, bombed in the name of Allah. On the other hand the ad ignores the progresses that have been made in regards to poverty and hunger.

On the other hand, what is the ad implying? Should nations whose citizens are attacked by brutal terror acts of illminded indoctrinated muslims, just be happy about it?
